Field Visit of Micro House Development Course at WIKA Modular Building factory

On Friday (April 19, 2024), the group of participants in the PAP6428 Micro House Development course carried out a field study at the WIKA Modular Building factory. The group consists of 21 course participants who are accompanied by two lecturers (Gierlang Bhakti Putra and Ratih Budiarti). At the visit location, the resource persons, consisting of WIKA Gedung Modular and RawHaus staff, accompanied the course participants to learn about various types of modular construction and their application techniques in micro houses.
During the field trip, Cassandra Sari Damayanti, co-founder of RawHaus, presented the difference between linear economy and circular economy in the construction world. Circular economy, according to Cassandra, invites us to change the paradigm of material exploitation. Circular economy encourages us to refuse, rethink, and reduce the use of materials in order to support development that has a positive impact on the environment. With a circular economy perspective, we are also required to reuse materials in order to reduce construction waste.

Anky Dessalina, research and development manager of WIKA Gedung, delivered an explanation regarding modular construction technology. Modular construction technology is one of the efforts to realize lean construction, namely construction that minimizes waste of time, energy, and materials. The principles of modular construction materials adopted by WIKA Gedung are three: the material is not easy to crack, lightweight, and flexible so that it is sturdy but still easy to transport and disassemble. WIKA Gedung also emphasizes on the joint system or connection used. Modular construction should reduce joints to reduce fragile construction points.

This field visit aims to bridge universities and industry in updating insights and product knowledge related to industry trends and developments. In the future, FTSP Trisakti University hopes to contribute to the development of construction knowledge in Indonesia, especially green ones.
